aKrewe’s June Mixer

As people, we have an innate need to belong, and according to the Harvard Business Review, 40% of people—spanning generations, genders, and ethnicities— say they feel physically and emotionally isolated in the workplace. The report also found that U.S. businesses spend nearly 8 billion dollars each year on diversity and inclusion (D&I) training that miss the mark because they neglect our need to feel included.

These feelings are amplified for underrepresented populations, which usually results in fewer opportunities to connect through shared experiences. Safe spaces to gather are particularly important for these populations because they provide a supportive and inclusive environment to share information, experiences, and a sense of inclusion.
